China Nuvo Solar Energy, Inc. is a development stage company with a patent-pending solar technology which it hopes to develop into a commercially viable, high-efficiency stacked photovoltaic (PV) solar cell for use in solar arrays and other energy-related applications.
This technology devolves around integral light-transmitting particles which act as wave guides in a ceramic sleeve within a stacked array of solar cells, allowing the sun-exposed conversion area of the cell to be shifted (from horizontal to vertical, for example) to capture more sunlight. This means less exposed surface area is necessary to generate electricity, resulting in smaller solar cells with greater output. In addition, the ceramic sleeve eliminates the need for expensive vacuum chambers, promoting the use of less expensive materials and therefore cheaper production costs.
China Nuvo Solar has further minimized costs by signing an agreement with Pioneer Materials, Inc. (PMI), a supplier of advanced materials for thin-film PV processing for optical recording, to set up a pilot production line by modifying their existing manufacturing facility located in the Chengdu West High Tech Development Zone in Chengdu, Sichuan, China.
Under the terms of the agreement, PMI, which has its headquarters in Torrance, California, and other manufacturing operations in Taiwan, will develop, test and manufacture prototypes based on China Nuvo Solar’s patented technology. After completion of a successful prototype, China Nuvo Solar will enter into strategic agreements with, or acquire, companies in the same vertical market to help them implement their business strategy of delivering affordable solar energy.
Using this superior technology – acquired as exclusive worldwide rights via a purchase from Photovoltaics.com, Inc. in 2008 – China Nuvo Solar plans to manufacture and market solar cells and solar-powered products for a wide range of applications. Since the technology incorporates a process that makes batch manufacturing practical, the cost savings of outsourcing production are evident. The technology also allows for multiple configurations of solar cells, which further reduces shipping and storage costs, as well as the cost of deploying large solar arrays.
Solar energy offers a clean, safe, environmentally friendly source of electricity to an energy-starved world. With energy experts predicting a worldwide growth in energy needs to more than 71 percent by 2030, and fossil fuels becoming increasingly expensive and difficult to extract, China Nuvo Solar is positioned to capture a significant share of a future market that may provide that essential energy.
