Over the next two years, American shoppers will still need additional tools to snuff out added sugars in their favorite products, and finding products that avoid added sugars entirely is no easy feat. To put those restrictions into perspective, a single teaspoon of sugar has about 16 calories.

Navigating the grocery aisle to find products that support moderate sugar consumption can be difficult. After all, a 12-ounce soft drink can feature about 160 calories of sugar. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that the majority of U.S. adults exceed their recommended daily allowances of sugar. For more than 35 years, Dr. Skog has worked in the medical field, specializing in orthopedic medicine, physical medicine, research and surgery, invasive pain management and rehabilitation. Content Checked Holdings, Inc. (CNCK) Revolutionizes the Way Consumers View the Low-Carb Diet

Content Checked Holdings, Inc. Tedrow can also be found on YouTube talking about the SugarChecked app and the pros and cons of low-carb diets. As she pointed out, carbohydrates are essential for the body to function normally. For example, the brain uses carbs as its source of fuel and requires about 100 grams daily to support cognitive function throughout the day. It cannot use fats or proteins. Grains, rice and potatoes are often included in any discussion of a low-carb diet, however, it must be noted that carbs can be found in dairy, legumes (beans), vegetables and fruits. Fruits especially high in carbs include bananas, oranges, apples, grapefruit and blueberries.

Tedrow explained that, more often than not, a low-carb diet simply reduces water weight. Carbohydrates are stored as glycogen in the muscles and liver, and roughly three to four grams of water are required for the body to retain one molecule of glycogen. When the level of glycogen falls, the water is shed and weight is lost. A low-carb diet will generally not affect levels of protein and fat.
