Soul and Vibe Interactive, Inc. (SOUL) Founder Has Firm Foothold in Prosperous Video Game Industry

April 25, 2013

The U.S. entertainment industry is aggressive in nature, comprised of market players producing a vast and diverse offering of experiences and simulations that cater to every imaginable consumer demographic. The gaming segment of the industry has achieved exceptional performance throughout its history, and isn’t showing any signs that it will slow its pace.

Consumer spending on console, mobile, and computer games exceeded $56 billion in 2010 and experts forecast it will hike to $82 billion by 2015. This growth trend is nothing new – America’s entertainment industry, especially the gaming market, has historically demonstrated its progressive value.

From 2005-2009, as the U.S. economy grew at a rate of less than 2 percent, the entertainment software industry’s annual growth rate topped 10 percent, according to Video Games in the 21st Century: The 2010 Report. For the same four-year period, direct employment for the industry grew 8.5 percent annually.

Competing and creating a recognizable brand in a rapidly burgeoning industry requires strong leadership that is familiar with navigating the waters. For more than 22 years, award-winning industry veteran Peter “Tony” Anthony Chiodo has piloted himself through nearly every aspect of the video and computer games industry.

Chiodo has extensive experience leading and managing software production teams, studio professionals, and entire production departments, and has directed more than 30 externally contracted development teams based all over the world. His creative efforts also resulted in the release of more than 100 frontline and “casual” games within a four-year span.

He has also produced serious games training tools for the U.S. Marine Corps and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, as well as consulted software companies in the healthcare industry to produce simulations to assist in advanced patient care.

Chiodo is also the founder and CEO of innovative video and computer games company, Soul and Vibe Interactive. The company is focused on building original intellectual properties (IPs), partnering with leading software developers around the world to turn unique concepts into affordable games and entertainment options.

Leveraging his standing relationships with independent software developers, licensing agents, professional athletes, and toy companies, Chiodo has created a business model that thrives on established licensing deals with third-party merchandising companies. Soul and Vibe is one of only about 60 companies in the world licensed by Microsoft to publish content on Xbox 360. Soul and Vibe is also licensed by Sony to publish content on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

Taking advantage of strong consumer trends and a solid management profile, Soul and Vibe believes it is positioned to reach profitability by 2014 and achieve $35 million in revenues by 2015, supporting its mission is to become a significant player in the video and computer games industry.

Soul and Vibe Interactive, Inc. (SOUL) Embraces Multiple Game Sources, Platforms, and Monetization Models

April 17, 2013

Soul and Vibe Interactive was begun by former Microsoft employee and award-winning game developer Tony Chiodo with the intention of publishing original titles. Through a contact at cereal giant General Mills, according to a recent Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal article (http://dtg.fm/H0Qd), the company soon acquired the rights to develop a game featuring the Wheaties cereal brand, along with rights to various General Mills characters, such as the Trix Rabbit, Lucky Leprechaun, and the Pillsbury Doughboy, plus rights to sell virtual apparel, such as super hero costumes, for avatars. The article points out that Soul and Vibe is already actively working on associated games, as well as other games, and may also use games from independent software companies that don’t currently have a distribution network.

It’s all part of the company’s stated strategy to use partnerships with technically sophisticated software developers located all over the world, transforming unique concepts into engaging, highly accessible, and affordable, games and entertainment experiences. Soul and Vibe’s business model focuses on multi-platform support, with games playable on consoles, personal computers, and, importantly, mobile devices. In addition, game design is centered around the idea of a recurring release of monetized games related content, with numerous revenue streams to be generated from each release.

• Ancillary revenue is generated from the sale of Premium Downloadable Content (“PDLC”), virtual apparel and costumes for Avatars, and monetized “Consumables”
• Mobile games are revenue generating marketing vehicles for console releases
• “Smart Glass” and “Companion App” support broadens consumer awareness for each game franchise, promoting interconnectivity between hardware platforms for games, and amortizing development and marketing expenses
• “IP” ownership allows control of property licensing to 3rd Party merchandising companies, and retention of the majority of revenues, maximizing shareholder value

Award Winning Developer Brings Talents to Role as CEO of Soul and Vibe Interactive, Inc. (SOUL)

April 5, 2013

When video and computer games company Soul and Vibe Interactive announced in February the acquisition of Soul and Vibe Entertainment, the founder and CEO of the entertainment company, Peter Anthony (“Tony”) Chiodo, took over the reins of Soul and Vibe Interactive as CEO and President. The acquisition secured Soul and Vibe Entertainment’s key contractual agreements as assets for Soul and Vibe Interactive, including a license agreement with General Mills, and game development and publishing agreements for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita (PS Vita), Xbox 360, Windows 8, Windows Live, and Windows Phone. But the move also brought to the fore the vital experience of the new CEO and President Tony Chiodo.

Mr. Chiodo is an award-winning director of product development and production, with 22 years in the video and computer games industry. He is responsible for the launch of over 200 video and computer games, and has extensive experience leading software production teams on a worldwide basis, including internal and contracted engineers, artists, and designers. He created and implemented a development process resulting in the release of over 100 frontline and “casual” games during a 4-year period. His achievements include the production and co-design of the critically acclaimed Stoked: Big Air snowboarding series (Xbox 360) and the million-unit selling title, Summer Sports: Paradise Island (Wii).

Products from the internal studio Tony managed resulted in a capital raise of $12 million, which was the second biggest raise in the interactive industry for the year. He has also produced a number of training simulation games for the U.S. Marine Corps as well as DARPA (the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency). In addition, he has served as a consultant to SiMCare Health and Vital Sims, Minnesota-based software companies that develop simulations for health care providers that help physicians and nurses provide care to patients who suffer from chronic disease. He is also an adjunct faculty member representing the video and computer games industry, teaching “The Business of Video Games” and “The Art, Culture, and Economics of Video Games” at the Institute of Production and Recording in Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Soul and Vibe Interactive, Inc. (SOUL) Adds Micro-Transactions to Business Model for Console, Mobile, and PC Games

March 28, 2013

Soul and Vibe Interactive, a publisher of games and game-related content for consoles, mobile devices, and personal computers, told investors today of plans to include micro-transactions in its games across multiple platforms. Micro-transactions, or the purchase of additional functionality and/or content within a game, are growing ever more popular as gaming habits and purchase preferences advance.

Parks Associates published a research report showing how smartphones and tablets are changing the gaming population and the way players pay for games. Because many of today’s games are integrated with a player’s established online account for their hardware platform of choice, it is easier than ever for users to make in-game purchases. Notably, this report states that gamers who play “free-to-play” mobile games are spending $21 per month to purchase virtual goods and upgrades.

“Soul and Vibe’s publishing model is built on multi-platform support: console, mobile, and personal computer. Mobile games are key revenue generating marketing vehicles for our upcoming console and PC games. We will be supporting monetized content in all of our games, regardless of the platform, which allows us to expand the gaming experiences we introduce. Best yet, through support of cross-platform play, monetized content introduced through our mobile products will allow gamers to uniquely enhance their console and personal computer play experiences both at home and on the go,” stated Soul and Vibe’s CEO and President, Peter Anthony Chiodo (“Tony”).

The move is a smart one being made by other gaming companies. Electronic Arts, a $5.3 billion industry giant, also recently announced the inclusion of micro-transactions in its future games. Embraced by consumers, the micro-transaction model provides additional recurring revenue streams for the companies who employ it.

Soul and Vibe Interactive, Inc. (SOUL) Parallels Movie Industry with Creative Monetization

March 26, 2013

When the motion picture industry was still young, revenue was based upon one source, the money paid by the movie goer to see a movie. As the industry developed, however, companies like Disney began to realize the income potential from character development and corresponding licensing. Disney currently pulls in close to $30 billion in licensed merchandise fees, far more than it does from movie sales or other sources, and is considered the world’s top licensor. Today, the same type of ancillary monetization is being applied in the video gaming industry, though in somewhat different ways.

Soul and Vibe Interactive, a publisher of games and games-related content for consoles, mobile devices, and personal computers, specializing in the creation of original intellectual properties, is a good example. The company’s business model calls for numerous revenue streams to be generated from each game release, and the Minnesota-based company is continuing to develop revenue streams separate from the purchase of games. In particular, each game product will be supported by a recurring release of monetized games-related content. Ancillary revenue is to be generated from the sale of Premium Downloadable Content (“PDLC”), virtual apparel and costumes for Avatars, and monetized “Consumables.” Their mobile games are also designed to be revenue generating marketing vehicles for their console releases.

In addition, the company’s digitally-oriented distribution and marketing model provides additional licensing control. “IP” ownership allows Soul to control the licensing of their properties to 3rd Party merchandising companies, and to retain the majority of revenues, maximizing shareholder value. The video and computer games industry has historically distributed and marketed physical media through traditional retail channels. The digital distribution and marketing of content is relatively new, but Soul was founded with a business model that fully embraces digital distribution. It’s an approach that can be focused on the end consumer, avoiding the challenges and costs associated with physical media distribution.

Soul and Vibe Interactive, Inc. (SOUL) Reports Plan to Monetize Avatars for Marketing Impressions and Additional Revenues

March 19, 2013

Soul and Vibe Interactive, a publisher of games for consoles, mobile devices, and personal computers, today told investors that its business model includes selling monetized games-related content, including virtual apparel, costume, and prop collections for Avatars. In addition to generating an additional stream of revenue, Avatar items can promote brand awareness for Soul and Vibe’s games and intellectual properties.

Avatars, the digital representation of gamers, have grown in popularity across many computer and console platforms. Microsoft, for example, launched its Avatar Marketplace on Xbox Live in 2009. Through this online marketplace, users buy virtual apparel including t-shirts, shoes, accessories, and costumes. They can also purchase props such as pets, hand-held toys, and miniaturized ride-on vehicles based on gaming intellectual properties, pop-culture, and licensed-brands. Each Avatar item sold is a marketing impression for the game and IP with which it is associated for the 55+ million Xbox Live subscribers online.

“Soul and Vibe intends to sell Avatar item collections in conjunction with each game we release. Avatar items based on the IPs of our licensed-brand partners, like General Mills, and our own proprietary IPs, is an ideal way for us to expand awareness for each of our games,” stated Soul and Vibe’s CEO and President, Peter Anthony Chiodo (“Tony”).

“As a form of monetized games-related content, Avatar items are one form of revenue generating marketing vehicle that can provide an additional revenue stream for the Company. We also intend to develop and monetize in-game consumables and downloadable content that enhances and expands the experience for gamers,” Chiodo added.

The Case for Soul and Vibe Interactive, Inc. (SOUL)

March 13, 2013

According to a PricewaterhouseCoopers report, the video gaming industry brought in over $56 billion in 2010 and is expected to hit $82 billion by 2015. It’s a massive market, but the industry is also changing.

The traditional approach of selling physical gaming media is rapidly being replaced by digitally distributed products. Mobile devices are becoming a major repository of processing power, and advanced communications technologies are leveraging this to create a new world of opportunity for game developers. Digital distribution dramatically cuts the cost of goods sold, while also avoiding the many issues involved in physical media sales and distribution.

Transitioning over to take full advantage of the digital distribution trend has been a strain on many companies, but Soul and Vibe Interactive was founded with a business model that fully embraces digital distribution. Soul and Vibe is focused on working with technical partners around the world to develop the most compelling and memorable games and entertainment experiences possible, while ensuring ease of access and affordability. The company likes to say that their games are as fun to talk about as they are to play. In addition, Soul and Vibe’s business model is designed for multi-platform support, allowing their games to be played on consoles, mobile devices, and personal computers.

From a monetization standpoint, the company’s products are further supported by a recurring release of monetized games related content. Their business model calls for numerous revenue streams to be generated from each game release:

• Soul and Vibe’s mobile games are revenue generating marketing vehicles for console releases.

• Additional revenue is generated from the sale of Premium Downloadable Content (“PDLC”), virtual apparel and costumes for Avatars, and monetized “Consumables.”

• Through “Smart Glass” and “Companion App” support, consumer awareness is increased for each game franchise, with interconnectivity promoted between hardware platforms for their games, and development and marketing expenses amortized.

• “IP” ownership allows the company to control the licensing of properties to 3rd Party merchandising companies, retaining the majority of revenues and maximizing shareholder value.
